Caliper is working with
Closed Loops to research and develop alternative waste management systems to create sustainable infrastructure that makes our cities more livable. Caliper has helped to evaluate feasibility for pneumatic waste systems throughout New York City. Caliper and
Closed Loops have focused on pneumatic waste collection under elevated viaducts throughout New York as prototype system for a broader implementation. Grants from NYSERDA and the NYSDOT have funded an in depth analysis evaluating the feasibility of using the High Line viaduct as a conduit for a district scale pneumatic waste management system. The study also includes evaluating sites along the High Line corridor for an anaerobic digestion system to help manage food waste close to the source of production, helping to reduce the presence of sanitation truck collection in this densely populated area.
